The Write Heart Healer

“I pray that your partnership with us in the faith may be effective in deepening your understanding of every good thing we share for the sake of Christ”

(Philemon 1:6, NIV).

The nurse had advised me to return to my husband’s cardiac ICU room by eight in the morning. The medical team would conduct rounds at nine, presenting my sole opportunity to ask questions and hear their insights directly. I arrived early, but the cardiac surgeon had visited his recovery room even earlier. Since she had performed the open-heart procedure, I thought I missed my chance to interact with the key player in my husband’s wellness.

I tried to attend the surgeon’s visit for the next few days, but she continued to elude me. But the medical team gathered in the doorway to discuss his case each morning and provided critical insights. As the week wore on, I came to appreciate the variety of health professionals who cycled through the room. From nurses and interns to support staff, each person offered a vital contribution to healing my husband’s heart.

The Lord calls many creatives to serve in his ministry of heart restoration. Some of us may assume our work must earn recognition through plaques, titles, or incisive sales impact before any of it matters. But every word spoken in the atmosphere of the Holy Spirit’s healing intent can have life-giving consequences. Our short form work may serve as daily attendants. We bless others as we submit ourselves to the ongoing internship of learning our craft. As critique group members or editors, we help sanitize manuscripts and optimize the content to promote wellbeing.

Even if we attain the position of acclaimed authorship, we will never achieve Christ’s purposes alone. The Lord designed his kingdom to function like a spiritual hospital of interdependent practitioners. The Holy Spirit breathes his words through each of us for a culminating healing effect on hearts. Successful practice as a Christian writer requires accepting our roles and participating in cooperative ministry with others.

Jehovah Rapha, thank you for the many levels at which you provide healing. And thank you, Lord, for inviting me to participate in the healing power of your ministry of creative work. Please guide my heart, mind, and soul to serve cooperatively alongside others to fulfill the purpose of your kingdom. Show me the roles I should embrace each day and help me practice them with excellence. And may every drop of Christ’s restoration poured through me bring the blessings you intend. Amen.
