Writing Is More than Creativity

“He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God”

(Micah 6:8, NIV).

Early in my writing career, rejection devastated me. Hope brimmed when I opened emails from agents and publishers, but their polite declines crushed me with doubts about whether I belonged in the publishing world. Each rejection felt deeply personal. I questioned my talent, my purpose, and even God’s calling on my life. For a season, fear and discouragement almost silenced me altogether.

In retrospect, I can see how God was working even through those painful moments. Instead of allowing rejection to harden my heart, he taught me how to pivot with grace. I learned to grow instead of quitting. I refined my craft, listened carefully, prayed faithfully, and continued showing up even when the doors remained closed. Over time, God began opening opportunities I never could have created on my own. Eventually, those difficult seasons led to landing both an agent and a publishing deal. What once felt like failure became preparation.

This verse reminds us that success is not defined by recognition, sales, or accomplishments. God values faithfulness. As writers, we will face procrastination, criticism, rejection, and uncertainty. Yet none of those things disqualifies us from purpose. Sometimes God uses delays to deepen our dependence on Him and strengthen our perseverance.

Writing is more than creativity; it is stewardship. Whether you write stories, devotionals, poetry, or articles, your words can carry hope, healing, and truth into dark places. The world does not need perfection. It needs authentic voices willing to trust God through the process.

If you are struggling today, don’t give up. The rejection may not be the end of your story. It may simply be the place where God begins redirecting you toward something greater than you imagined.

Lord, help me overcome the self-defeating areas in my life. When procrastination, fear, rejection, or discouragement try to silence my gifts, strengthen me. Teach me to trust in your timing and to walk humbly in obedience to your calling. Help my voice pierce the darkness with your truth and goodness. Let my words encourage, uplift, and reflect your love to those who need it most. Give me perseverance to continue writing when the journey feels difficult. Thank you for your continued presence along this journey. . Thank you for the purpose you placed within me and for the grace that sustains me through every challenge. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
