A Bluebird in My Writing Winter by Tina Yeager

A Bluebird in My Writing Winter

by Tina Yeager

“Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be”

(Psalm 139:16, NIV).

A mountain of tasks reforms on my desk overnight. I shovel away at the editing, content creation, and other administrative duties until long after sunset. The next morning, a daunting pile of work still looms before me. Efforts persist in this endless pattern, yet I see so little progress.

A vast stretch of sameness lies ahead of me on the calendar. Rows upon rows of squares with no events scheduled that might lead me toward achieving a meaningful goal. I lament the incompleteness of my writing purpose and wonder if I will ever get anywhere.

A flutter of vibrant wings lifts my downcast gaze to the window. My favorite songbird alights on a winter-stripped branch. As the morning hints at a reprieve from recent freezes, the bluebird twists and fluffs his feathers wide to embrace its promises.

As I watch the bird bathe himself in the sunlight, the Lord invites me to immerse myself in his promises. Psalm 139 reminds me the Creator has formed me and all the purposes to be drafted through me. He is the author of my purpose and all the days ahead. Mover of the mountains of busyness in my way. And the light to renew life in my wings.

So, like the bluebird, I will shake off the chill of this recent season. I’ll turn my focus upon my author’s promises. In Jesus, my purpose and very life have completion. As I soak in the warmth of his glorious presence, I choose to trust him.

Lord, thank you for your promises. For bluebirds and scriptural rays of assurance. Let me soak daily in your presence and trust you with all the days ahead.

  2. I just saw a bluebird flit across my path running this weekend. The brilliant blue a stark contrast to the grays and barrenness of winter.

The Lord is so gracious in all things, including the kisses of color with which he cheers our hearts during bleak seasons!
