Turn Grumbling into Gratitude
by Tina Yeager
(Philippians 2:13-15, NIV).
I enjoy the peace of cleanliness. Pristine countertops, sanitized dishes, and gleaming floors bring me serenity. I cherish the sweet air as my refuge.
Yet, I dislike the chores required to create this ideal. My groan accompanies dishes that require manual washing. I sigh at the repeated need to clean floors and bathrooms. The pollen buildup on our windows declares my reluctance to spend hours on housework.
As I consider those dusty windows during my morning devotion time, the Lord reminds me that each task involves his gifts to me. I recognize the beauty of my countertops, dishes, and home. The recurring smudges and dust remind me of my loved ones who live here. I now thank God for my blessings as I maintain the household he so graciously provided.
More significant than my housework mindset, my writing attitude deserves some tidying.
I enjoy the peace of completed manuscripts but often groan about the effort to produce them. Scouring my mind for pristine words. Scrubbing edits through the lines over and over. Polishing my work’s visibility in the endless chore of marketing.
The Holy Spirit reminds me to embrace each assignment as a blessing. He provides beautiful messages to refine with clarifying words. Marketing offers an opportunity to touch precious hearts and to fulfil my purpose. I now thank God for each aspect of his call to write.
Father, thank you for calling me to share your words with souls you dearly love. Please continue to help me purify my mindset. May your Holy Spirit allow me to shine for your glory and bless those who need to see your messages through my words. Amen.
