Micro-Moments for Writing
by Tina Yeager
“Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom”
(Psalm 90:12, NIV).
Faceless tyrants dictate my days. I sacrifice mornings, middays, and afternoons to commitments and intrusions. Some tasks serve meaningful or necessary ends. Many group texts, and chores steal productive focal time resulting in hours robbed of spiritual impact.
My wrists ache from efforts that offer little in helping me fulfill my writing call. While part of my busy schedule supports God’s will, I often fail to prioritize his purpose. I fulfill others’ expectations until fatigue sets in. At the end of the evening, the inner well to ink my writing has run dry.
God alone deserves authority over my life. I cannot fulfill my purpose without surrendering all to his sovereignty—my soul, commitments, and time. The urgent and temporary must no longer rule over me. I now choose to submit each scheduling choice to the Holy Spirit.
I lay my busyness at his feet. The Lord placed me in many volunteer and media roles, so he knows I lack the luxury of extra time. God can work miracles with little or no resources, a feat I’ve proven unable to perform in my writing career.
The Holy Spirit reveals how to prioritize his work during peak mental hours. He prompts me to apply micro-moments to writing. When I obey him with those minutes, the outcomes lift my soul. The Lord multiplies small margins of time to yield miraculous results.
Jesus redeems all things, even an overflowing calendar.
My schedule remains hectic, but the Lord guides me to complete the most important tasks by each day’s end. What matters gets accomplished. The unfinished can wait, even if others might prefer their demands take precedence.
I answer to one master now. Human demands persist, but they no longer rule my day. I choose to wait upon the Spirit’s commands so I “may sing for joy and be glad all our days” (Psalm 90:14, NIV). I trust him with fulfillment as in the end of today’s Psalm, “May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us—yes, establish the work of our hands” (Psalm 90:17, NIV).
Father, thank you for revealing my need to surrender to you as sovereign over my time. I’m so grateful for your grace and your Holy Spirit’s guidance. Please continue to redeem every moment to serve your purposes and establish the work of my call to write. Amen.
