Keep Believing

by Dr. Katherine Hutchinson-Hayes

“Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see”

(Hebrews 11:1, NLT).

As a school principal, staff development presenter, and doctoral chair, I knew academia. Yet after the birth of my final child, a deadly illness, and my husband’s last deployment, the time for a change had come. A long-dormant desire to write stirred in my soul.

I prayed for a sign to confirm this uncertain path. Secular colleagues insisted that I’d lost my mind. Outside the educational sector, the general publishing industry loomed in unknown territory. Though God had planted a yearning within me long ago, I wasn’t sure where to start.

I tried writing for Christian programs on our local military base. To dispel my misgivings, the Lord nudged my heart to confirm this direction. I developed my first Bible-based curricula for women and children. I later created a Bible study for a church, which led to writing my Bible study. I allowed God to use me further and wrote a thriller series.

I now work as an editor, magazine columnist, and blogger for ten publications monthly.

God answered my prayer for a writing community in a way that exceeded my expectations. Beyond providing career opportunities, he guided me on a journey to deepen my love for him.

Despite setbacks, closed doors, and rejection, God supported my hope. The struggle has tempted me to give up at times, but trust in God sustained me. Faith breathed new life into my abandoned dreams, neglected aspirations, and unmet objectives. It helped me see the potential in lost desires and turned them into reality.

It’s easy to lose sight of our writing goals or feel discouraged when we face challenges. Relying on God empowers us to overcome obstacles and achieve our goals. We can tap into Christ’s strength, courage, and hope.

Faith transcends believing in something we can’t see. Trusting God guides us on the right path. And when we do, amazing things can happen.

As Christian writers, we can depend on God’s writing plan. Let us remain confident that he will guide our words to touch the hearts of those who need them most.

Dear Lord, please show me how to hold fast to my faith, knowing that it’s the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Grant me the assurance that you’re always with me, even when I can’t physically see you. Amen.
