Overcoming Writer Overwhelm

by Tina Yeager

Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak

(Isaiah 40:28-29, NIV).

An avalanche of tasks tumbled from my inboxes, calendar, and notepad. Fatigue weighed upon my bones and blurred my vision. I faced pending duties, follow-up, and technology I had yet to master. Limited rest had also brought me a cough. Overwhelm threatened to bury my thoughts.

I had pressed through two hectic conferences without pausing to process anything. My memory swelled. Eight days on overtime can hold so much. Yet my spirit also overflowed. Because in those eight days, I experienced a cascade more powerful than the physical and mental overload.

I knew my weary mind could not deliver eloquence, but the Holy Spirit spoke messages through me that I could not have crafted in my own strength. Prayer quieted my coughing and restored my voice for the remaining hours of scheduled interviews. When miles of walking depleted my physical strength, the Lord’s presence sustained me. Miraculous provision of words, energy, and guidance filled each moment.

Limitations and barriers provided opportunities for God to demonstrate his power. Jesus repurposed the challenges to fortify my awareness of dependence upon him. He also bolstered my spiritual capacity to abide in him. Faith amid impossible odds granted me access to potential exceeding my own strength. I received evidence of God’s supernatural equipping for his messengers.

I can overcome the current overwhelm by clinging to Christ-boosted faith. When my flesh groans under the weight of duties beyond my capabilities, my spirit can lean into my provider. I might not measure up to the tasks before me, but Christ will always prove more than enough.

I choose to face today’s avalanche with gratitude. I look forward to another opportunity to experience Christ’s restoration and miraculous power. I’ll thank him in advance for equipping me to conquer the impossible.

Lord, thank you for walking with me through all the demands of each day. I’m so grateful for each faith-building moment, even when it comes amid challenges. Thank you for dwelling within me and providing your Holy Spirit to anoint my work. Amen.
