The Writer’s Remote Control
by Tina Yeager
(Numbers 14:26-27, AMP).
My husband and I watch the same television, but we do not share a remote control. We have two devices. He prefers the small IOS, while I use an android version sized like a defense weapon. When we engage both, the operating systems battle one another and frustrate the results on screen. Someone must cut power from one controller so the television can share its tales on screen effectively.
After one of us surrenders, complaints ensue over the results. Discontented button pushing brings us glimpses of several opening scenes. Hours pass while we fail to experience the fulfillment of an entire story.
Screens stand as portals to vast potential, much like the fingertips of an anointed wordsmith. Discontent, wavering, and doubt erode precious time. The battle for ownership can lead to an unproductive end. If the wrong hands take over, no one experiences fulfillment.
The messages of my life’s work might fail to inspire audiences if I give in to negative mindsets.
Opposing forces battle for control of my writing career. I can surrender to emotions or circumstances. But the Lord did not call me to serve only when things go well or I feel like writing. If I let fickle conditions direct my life, fulfillment will never occur.
Jesus granted me the authority to resolve the power struggle over my mindset. Problems will arise in the process of sharing Christ’s messages. But I can resist the temptation to whine or abdicate responsibility. Instead of clicking a list of excuses to give up, I can choose to trust God and commit. I’m thankful he can defend me from button-pushing and guide me to fulfillment. He alone has the perfect, satisfying end for my story as a writer.
Father, I submit my remote control to you. Guide my writing and all areas of my life. Please help me resist temptations to grumble or give up on the messages you selected me to share. Thank you for the fulfillment you’ve created in the scenes ahead of me. Amen.
