Answers to Distress Calls

“When I am in distress, I call to you, because you answer me,”

(Psalm 86:7, NIV).

Strained chirps erupted from the wee nest tufted behind the pillar of our front porch. A glorious finch eyed me until I backed out of view. When the human threat had passed, she swooped in a ruddy-feathered flash to respond to the cry of her hatchlings. The chicks twittered in frenetic complaint as if the ever-present and watching mother had abandoned them. Yet she remained close and intent on meeting their every need.

The Lord has set us in a lovely nest of our own this year. Yet I’ve sent out a few distress calls from within our well-feathered space. From financial stress to writing discouragements, I chirped my concerns to the heavens. The horizon seemed so vast and my hopes of rescue so distant, I couldn’t see how things would work out.

Yet each time I cried, the Lord answered me.

Recently, his song-like voice washed over my soul. “Do you think I’d bring you here and not take care of you?”

My chirps settled along with my heart, “You are always good, Lord.”

Our loving Father doesn’t bring us to any space in life to abandon us. If he calls us to write, he provides for the mission of words. When he brings us a ministry, he covers the nest with his wings of protection and anointing. Wherever the Lord leads us, he remains close and faithful to meet our needs.

Lord, I’m so grateful for your faithful presence. Thank you for your goodness, mercy, and love. I praise you for the honor and blessings of your calling and the ways you fulfill everything required for my life with you. Amen.
