Jewels in a Crown
by Tina Yeager
“The Lord their God will save his people on that day
as a shepherd saves his flock.
They will sparkle in his land
like jewels in a crown”
(Zechariah 9:16, NIV).
Silver and gold settings wink at me from the shop window. A sparkling diamond and pearl necklace grabs my attention and lures me inside. I cannot resist admiring the well-polished and shimmery things in a boutique. Or a well-worded glow on a book’s pages. Something about the way art reflects glory captivates my spirit.
Nothing craves light like the eyes.
The creator faceted our vision organs as gem-colored windows to the soul. The eyes serve as both seekers and bearers of the Lord’s radiance. When peering into the eyes of others, spiritual worth sparkles back at me with more appeal than any diamond trinket. I could gaze for eternity into the brilliant life stories of our Father’s jewels. I adore every opportunity to admire the unique magnificence of a soul.
Yet many of the Lord’s beloved gems languish in this world’s darkness. Their eyes and souls have dulled from a lack of hope. Pain and discouragement imprison them in shadow. A thief steals their luster and buries their worth so the glory of our creator no longer finds reflection in their eyes.
As writers, we have the gift of light-scribing. Our words can gild the world’s blue screens with eternal hope. We can weave love’s gleam across ordinary pages. And what we share from the Spirit radiates into the eyes of those who read. Their once-dull eyes receive light so they can sparkle as their designer intended.
Whether one reads our message or many receive it, each reader carries the value of a gem set in the Lord’s crown. Priceless souls might await our words to illuminate their inner facets. If we fulfill our role, the crown jewels may shine with all the potential of their unique design.
Lord, thank you for the gift of radiating words into the souls of readers. I’m so grateful for your infinite mercy, from which you continue to call me as your emissary of glory and blessings. Amen.
