Battle for Our Position
“For the Lord Most High is awesome, the great King over all the earth … He chose our inheritance for us,
the pride of Jacob, whom he loved.”(Psalm 47:2-4, NIV).
Before I rose from bed, a predator emerged from the shadows. The ambush might have knocked the breath from my lungs. But I anticipated my enemy’s next moves before he had the chance to take me out. I rolled from my vulnerable position to assume a power pose he couldn’t overcome. Not a wide stance with fists ready in front of my face. I opted for the one posture my assailant couldn’t budge by lying prostrate on the floor.
You see, I had experienced this attack many times before. And this enemy could only be resisted by prayer.
His numbers round-kicked at the place where nightmares had stirred my mind. You cannot sustain this lack of income. Don’t you feel guilty for the costs you’re incurring?
But my head was no longer in that spot. I bowed my face in grateful praise to my ultimate provider and boss. And the assailant’s foot missed its mark.
The attacker stabbed insults from the pillow to foot, where my core had once lay rigid. Your writing will never amount to anything. Nothing you publish or do will prove worth any of this. You’ve grown too old to match the accomplishments of those whose work matters.
But my heart and gut were no longer exposed to his piercing blows. As I knelt before Christ, his presence covered me. And the enemy could not penetrate the one who had been pierced to save
me.
The Holy Spirit has trained me to spot my attacker, even in the bleary morning moments. Satan ambushes me in this weakest time of my day with similar number-kicks and discouragement-stabs. But the Lord gives me scriptures for every number. And his truths overtake all the blows of discouragement.
Regardless of the shame assaulting my call as a writer, the Lord has chosen my inheritance. No circumstance can contend with Christ’s truth. No rival can unseat his powerful declaration. So when the enemy of my soul attempts to kill my divine potential, I take on the indefatigable stance under Jesus’ protection.
Father, I’m so grateful for your faithfulness and the assurance you have already won my battles. Thank you for the priceless gift of prayer. Please continue to draw me under your covering each morning and forever. Guide me to the position you designed for me. Amen.

It helps when we hear another person relate to the same struggles. The solution is, of course, what you did, the word of God and prayer. His voice is the calming answer that sends the lies away.
