Words as Our Legacy

by Tina Yeager

“Let this be written for a future generation,
that a people not yet created may praise the Lord”

(Psalm 102:18, NIV).

I gaze through my new home’s double-paned windows toward a city of strangers. Engines reverberate, their roars penetrate our walls when countless vehicles zoom past the driveway. But I remain unheard. Unknown. Though I expected to connect by now, these socially-distanced months have prevented friendships. I had hoped for supportive networks. Belonging. Purpose.

Yet, my voice seems trapped within lovely gray walls. How can I deliver my words to others when I cannot reach past my door?

As strangers continue to navigate along the frigid road outside, I listen for a whisper. The Lord reminds me whose words he calls me to share. And they’re not mine.

Though I feel trapped by current circumstances, nothing in this world surprises or thwarts God Almighty’s purposes. My writing and speaking will minister to others when the Spirit breathes messages through me. He may send my lines through cyberspace to impact those I’ll never meet. He may speak through me across time to reach a generation I’ll never see. And he may just speak through my ministry of words to someone sooner than I imagined.

If I submit my hands and mouth to his Spirit, the Lord will inhabit my work. He will empower my words. Instead of worrying about the outcome of my work and ministry, I can surrender all I am and do. Then I can serve as a legacy for his glory which Christ promises to share with me forever.

Father, thank you in advance for empowering my work to serve your perfect purpose. Fill me only and fully with your Spirit’s breath and Christ’s nature. Shape me into the vessel through which you will bless whomever you have intended. Assure me daily of your perfect timing and indefatigable equipping. Amen.
