Am I Wasting My Time?
by Tina Yeager
“For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again”
Grim predictions flood my home, gushing in from news programs and online sources. I open my literary agency’s email and more ominous developments gush through. This morning, clouds gather outside to curtain my outlook in darkness.
I turn my gaze from the bleak computer screen toward the heavens and ask the Lord whether I should bother. Though I felt led to complete a manuscript this spring, why on Earth would I need to continue drafting it now? Under these circumstances, writing seems a waste of my time.
The Spirit reminded me of my commitment to surrender everything to him. I have no time. No projects. No life of my own over which to concern myself. I dwell within his time. He invites me to share in his work. All my identity and purpose stretch beyond myself and this mortal moment of living into his eternal life and significance.
Our writing call offers more than a logical destiny. We lay down our sensible plans and pour out all we have upon the feet of an eternal King. Submission invites his unsearchable light to dispel the oppression of darkness.
Christ poured out his life to offer me eternity. Under such timeless circumstances, I can no longer consider anything he asks of me wasted. So, I will take up the manuscript which has no visible evidence of hope. For this is the definition of faith.
Will you join me in living the wild and unforeseeable adventure of writing for Christ’s purpose, one we cannot yet see?
Lord, I’m so grateful for Christ’s outpouring of eternal life. Thank you for the gracious way you drench me with gifts and invite me to share in your work. May you continually equip and inspire me so I may pour out everything to fulfill your purpose. In Christ’s name, amen.

He’s always on time. I’ve been debating the same questions, why bother? Yet, even in that, I have felt a compelling urge to continue. At times I feel as though I have missed my opportunity, but this reminds me all things work together according to His purpose. Blessings to you.
