Game Changer

“Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart”
(Psalm 37:4, NIV).
From a young age, I wanted to be a writer.
Well, kind of.
I mean, I wanted to write a children’s book. Just one. And I hoped that it would be successful, sell a million copies, and instantly make me famous. I didn’t have a plan and wasn’t taking any action, but if it was meant to happen then God would line it up.
Anyone else cringing right now?
Me too. But to be honest, that was my hope. That maybe, possibly, one day, I could share my voice with the world. I’d see my name on a book. Gain recognition and significance. I obviously had issues with worth, but I knew there was a story inside me. I just didn’t know whose.
A few years ago, I realized God had been doing his God-thing and preparing my heart. While I had always known about him, I didn’t truly know him. I knew rules, but I didn’t know relationship. I knew talent, but I didn’t know purpose. As I drew near to him, I fell head over heels in love. For the first time in my life, I realized that my writing dreams were placed inside of me for a reason. He rekindled and repackaged my desire to write for kids. With that, he gave me a greater desire to write for him.
You see, I could no longer write my story without telling his. He is the story.
In a leap of faith, I stepped out of my comfort zone and went all in with this writing gig. When God prepared me for a purpose bigger than my own success, the game changed. Doors opened. Opportunities came. And his way is always better than anything we can do on our own.
Dear Father, we want to delight in you above all things. We believe that you have created us with gifts and a purpose. You know the desires of our heart. You know the stories deep within us. Let us not create in our own power, but in yours. Let us not exalt in our own name, but in yours. Amen.
