In the Beginning was the Word
by Nicole Schrader
“In the beginning was the word, and the word was with God, and the word was God…through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made”
(John 1:1,3 NIV).
I recently spent an afternoon reviewing videos on my agent’s website. When I finished, my to do list filled three pages—work on platforms, grow email lists, distribute newsletters, check trends, identify what editors in my genre want, and write. Overwhelmed by the magnitude of work ahead of me, I struggled to decide where to begin.
Do you find yourself immobilized by the number of projects involved in getting published?
I did.
But then, the Holy Spirit whispered, Come to Me.
I drew near to the throne of God in prayer and through reading and reflecting on the Bible. He reminded me that His call—my purpose and motivation—is to glorify Him.
Just as God created everything in the universe with His words, He inspires us to participate in this creative process with Him. We share the unique privilege and responsibility of communicating His glory with our creations. According to Proverbs 16:3, when we commit our work to God, He establishes our plans.
So, I begin each day by bringing my compositions to God, and trust He will guide me to prioritize each writing activity. Because I know His faithfulness from experience, I seek to be faithful with my writing.
Lord, thank you for placing Your Spirit within me and for guiding me back to Your word. Help me to be faithful with my words and my time. Today I commit my work to You. I pray You will use if for Your glory. Amen.
